Be Rewarded to Study Abroad –
Apply to become a Global Ambassador at Lang!
Are you interested in studying abroad? Do you have a strong passion for intercultural experiences? Do you enjoy making new friends and learning about different countries? Are you looking for an opportunity to expand your global perspective?
If you answered yes, then apply to the Global Ambassador program and receive funding for your study abroad program. A Global Ambassador Award can only be used to fund a Lang study abroad program.
Who are Global Ambassadors?
Global Ambassadors are Lang students selected by the Dean’s Office of Student Engagement & Global Programs to promote global learning experiences. They are recognized by Lang College for their contributions to campus life.
Global Ambassadors are leaders among their peers and enthusiastically enrich the college experience for all students through various activities. They promote study abroad, build connections and help their fellow students develop an international dimension to their academic experience.
As a Global Ambassador, you will share your experiences by posting on Lang’s social media while abroad, and help make study abroad even better by giving us feedback on your program.
Once you return from your study abroad trip, some of the outreach activities that you will be involved in include: peer advising, tabling at events throughout campus and presenting on study abroad during classroom visits.
Along with the Office of Student Engagement & Global Programs, Global Ambassadors also represent Lang in year-round programs such as Orientation, Study Abroad fairs, the Dean's Honor Symposium, Cultural Heritage Months, International Week and International Education Week.
Additionally, Global Ambassadors serve as peer mentors and work one-on-one with international and exchange students to help them acclimate to life at Lang, at The New School and in the United States.
Some activities that Global Ambassadors participate in with international and exchange students include: showing students how to get around NYC, how to navigate the campus and where they can shop for groceries, books or dorm supplies. Making international students feel at home at Lang could also mean introducing them to potential friends or inviting them to an event. Since International students are sometimes overwhelmed with the amount of information they receive as they enter the U.S. and enroll in school, Global Ambassadors make their transition easier by sharing information on resources and tips on studying, courses and university life.
Being a Global Ambassador at Lang offers a unique opportunity to forge life-long friendships and gain diverse perspectives of the world from another culture. It will help you continue the learning you experienced abroad and help build community at Lang and at The New School. You can apply for and receive a Global Ambassador Award more than once during your academic career. International students are also encouraged to apply. Students who are also applying for a Lang Opportunity Award scholarship for study abroad should note that students are only eligible to receive funding from either the Global Ambassador or Lang Opportunity Award to fund one specific study abroad program.
As a Global Ambassador, you are eligible to receive:
An Award of up to $5,000 for your study abroad program (must be for a Lang approved study abroad program), and will gain Cross-Cultural knowledge and Leadership Skills. You will also receive a Student Leadership Certificate, and celebrate the year’s accomplishments at an Academic Year Luncheon. More benefits will be featured in upcoming announcements.
In return, all Global Ambassadors are expected to fulfill the following service requirements in the semester which follows their study abroad program:
Deadline to apply for Summer & Fall 2018: March 1, 2018
